They simply could not understand why Janet and Bill were not allowed to be friends. ‘ Why is the moon called a squoon? The language in this book was fun to read and the boys became lost in a brand new world full of weird and wonderful plants, exotic creatures and fantastical planets.Īfter reading the book both boys aged 3 and 6 kept flicking back to their favourite parts of the story. A purple baby Smoo Smed and guess what? They love it more than anything in the world. Reluctantly and with heavy hearts the two families decide to head home where they discover Janet and Bill and a new addition to the two familes a grandchild.Ī smoo-smed. Unfortunately they don’t manage to find Janet and Bill but they do discover respect for each other and become friends. After flying through space,living together brings them closer and the Smed’s even try some pink milk! We journey through Outer Space with the Smeds and Smoos to visit a whole host of new planets each with their own species and unique habitat. Shocked and suprised to find their grandchildren have flown away the Smeds and Smoos have no choice but to fly off, together in the Smoo’s blue rocket to bring them home. They miss each other so much that they decide to fly away in a rocket! However, Janet and Bill fall in love because of their differences not in spite of and meet in secret to play together.

Bill is a Smoo and he’s blue! The Smed’s drink tea but the Smoo’s like pink milk! The Smed’s have funny hair and the Smoo’s have funny shoes!! Their grandparents have forbidden them to associate with each other based purely on their appearances and cultural differences. ‘ Star crossed lovers Janet and Bill are Romeo and Juliet in alien form.’ When the boys found out which much loved author and illustrator duo created this book excitement ensued, as the boys knew they were in for an extra special bedtime story. We had so much fun reading the brand new story from Julia Donaldson and Axel Sheffler. Colourful, clever, engaging, witty and fresh.
